New Tablet, new Download Comics

"CD Comics Surreal Murder Mystery Series is certainly a different type of comic, and a world away from the mainstream."

Use the new Tablet, Smartphone, Android device you got for Christmas or your new Desktop to read a new style of comic from Sheffield UK based publisher CDComics these are nothing like Marvel, DC or Image.

Here's a few more extracts from independent reviews

"Daley’s unique, dry wit is the highlight of his writing. He may write great stories, but when it comes to the closing pages, there’s no one else to compare."

"You’ve got to hand it to Craig Daley of CDComics. His imagination and concept of whodunnit stories are magnificent as he creates a picture, or rather a graphic novel, of a bustling alternate world that still has roots in real life"

"He's crafted a story that feels like an episode of television crime drama. It read and felt very much like an episode of BBC's Luther, the acclaimed detective drama."

"There were twists that were surprising, and the vein of funny running through the whole thing really hit the spot! Full of hidden Easter Eggs as well and it really hits the description of a 'surreal murder mystery'."

Sheffield Wednesday or United Christmas Download Comic

Football Crazy: The Theatre of Nightmares on the Road to Insanity, is a 66 page comic book narrative that tells the story of a great FA Cup run, against the backdrop of a murder investigation.

The comic/graphic novel is available in either red or blue and white, so it's the perefct present for Wednesday or Unitedites.

Yes, the Manchester United players are all named after serial killers, wait until you see who is playing for Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool... This is 'Roy of the Rovers' meets the 'X-Files' in 'The Twilight Zone', as ritualistic murder in Sheffiled, clashes with FA Cup victories. This is tongue in cheek macabre horror with 'Look North' reporting as Jim Rosenthal makes the draw for the next round.

"The way the games are covered is in such a way that you could well be watching a highlights reel, and it also captures the other side of the cup as well; the banality of the TV studio. Jim Rosenthal’s stellar FA Cup draws get sent up in hilarious style, along with regional news programme, Look North. With these quirks adding to an overall brilliant story, you really are missing out on some genius story telling if you don’t give Football Crazy a go."

The Graphic Novel CDrom version is available from Sheffield Space Centre, Galaxy 4 or the Record Collector in Broomhill, the Funhouse Woodseats, Rare and Racey Devonshire Green and Blackwell's on Mappin Street and priced at just £2.50

The Rotting Zombie reviews Spring Heeled Jack

Spring Heeled Jack: From the Tunnels of Hell gets another totally Independent Review...

Here's a couple of extracts from what the Rotting Zombie thought about the comic

The Plot
'Every one hundred years on the night of Halloween a demonic figure with glowing red eyes and the ability to send men insane with fear appears in Sheffield to terrorise young women. Dating back as far as people can remember this thing has appeared like clockwork in the 73rd year of every century but come Halloween 2011 and the creature has returned out of sync. Not only that but it is now murdering people where before it only terrorised.'

The Opinion
'I love how this story is set out, it is split into three different tales almost. One takes place in 1873, one takes place in 1973, while the last takes place in 2011. The best one I thought was the 1973 one in which a young man and a Police Officer contemplate going into the tunnels under Sheffield in search of the demonic prankster. Another good comic though, hypnotic, and entertaining and worth a look at.'

ComicBitsOnline post about Spring Heeled Jack

Terry of Comicbitonline post about CDComic's  Spring Heeled Jack: From the Tunnels of Hell

Historically, London 1837 has been established as Victorian prankster demon’s first appearance and within 20 years Spring Heeled Jack appeared in ‘Penny Dreadfuls’ and is often referred to as the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Bob Kane’s Batman.
But in 1808, a letter to the Editor of the Sheffield Times referred to a prankster demon that had terrorised the town years before and the description of the ‘Park Ghost’ matched, a fire breathing, red eyed, laughing and pitchfork wielding, building leaping demon from hell.
In 1873 and 1973 Spring Heeled Jack returned to Sheffield and again sightings were reported in the local press, now Sheffield based CDComics are bringing the prankster demon home and bang up to date.
The legend of Sheffield’s bogeyman has the demon using the tunnels under the city and terrorising females by ripping at their clothes and his appearances are marked by a carving of Spring Heeled Jack on the timber frame of Sheffield’s oldest pub, the Old Queens Head built in 1573.
Jack returns on Halloween 2011 and this time instead of ripping at women’s clothes, the demon is killing people, but why has the demon returned 62 years early and why is Jack killing people this time?
CDComic’s Spring Heeled Jack answers the questions and solves all the mysteries surrounding the legend of the prankster demon.
Spring Heeled Jack: From the Tunnels of Hell is also available to download in two 35 page parts from several websites priced around $0.99/80p/Euro equivalent; prices do vary slightly due to download cost charges by some suppliers.

Football Comic Strip

CDComics ‘Football Crazy: The Theatre of Nightmares on the Road to Insanity’ is the third of the Surreal Murder Mystery Series written and illustrated by Craig Daley.

The story follows a lower league clubs' F.A Cup run with games against top Premier League teams, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs, and is set against the backdrop of a police investigation into the gruesome murder of one of the lower league players, but I’ll let some independent reviewers fill in the details...

“Daley's crafted a story that feels like an episode of television crime drama. It read and felt very much like an episode of BBC's Luther, the acclaimed detective drama. The way the story unfolds makes it difficult to predict. It's not one where halfway through you know who did it, why they did it and how. It's only at the end that everything comes together and Daley even uses character expository for the purpose of tying it all up in a neat little package.”

The comic blends football action, TV punditry with autopsy scenes, crime scene investigations and interviews with possible suspects and like CDComics previous Surreal Murder Mysteries, the reason behind the murders and the killers’ identity doesn’t disappoint.

“Football Crazy is a world away from the mainstream and the fantastically off-the-wall pay off makes for an amusingly different ending to this sort of tale. As a big fan of England’s finest football tournament, it is a genuine treat to see how well the magic and atmosphere of the FA Cup is captured in comic form, and at times, in a comic way, too. Jim Rosenthal’s stellar FA Cup draws get sent up in hilarious style, along with regional news programs and with these quirks adding to an overall brilliant story, you really are missing out on some genius story telling if you don’t give Football Crazy a go.”

The clues to solve the crime are in the pages of the comic, but there are plenty of red herrings and…

“There were twists that were surprising, and the vein of funny running through the whole thing really hit the spot! It’s full of hidden Easter Eggs and it really hits the description of a 'surreal murder mystery'.”

Without giving away too much away, about the Easter Eggs referred to, check the names of all the players and the names of the detectives investigating the crimes in the pages displayed…

Football Crazy is published locally in either red or blue and white for both sets of supporters, Sheffield Wednesday or United and like all CDComics titles, the CDRom contains both PDF and JPEG versions of the Graphic Novel and is packaged in a slimline DVD case with a full wrap around covers, priced £2.50 from several shops in Sheffield UK

Blackwells, Mappin Street, Sheffield
Broomhill Record Collector, Sheffield
Rare and Racey, Sheffield
Funhouse, Woodseats, Sheffield

Plus two specialist Comic Shops
The Sheffield Space Centre at www.space-centre.co.uk
Galaxy 4, Broomhill, Sheffield at www.galaxy4.co.uk

Football Crazy is also available to download in two 33 page parts from several websites priced around $0.99/80p/Euro equivalent; prices do vary slightly due to download cost charges by some suppliers.

Football Crazy Part One: ISBN: 9781476362908
Football Crazy Part Two: ISBN: 9781476406497

And via Smashwords at

It's good getting independent reviews from websites and blogs, but it's also good getting feedback from paying customers and Football Crazy is averaging four stars on the five star scale across all the download websites.

“Daley knows how to keep the reader enthralled from frame to frame and leaves you wanting more.”
